Yuko Nakamura Japanese Painting Exhibition
- Gratitude to the Seasons -
An exhibition entitled “Yuko Nakamura Japanese Painting Exhibition – Gratitude to the Seasons” will be held at ITOCHU AOYAMA ART SQUARE. Yuko Nakamura employs the classical technique of kirikane*, learned during her time as a graduate research student into Buddhist paintings of the Kamakura period, as well as the traditional materials of Japanese painting such as gold leaf, silver leaf, and mica, to incorporate an impression of radiant light into her works, which portray with warmth and tenderness the radiance of flowers and small creatures in the four seasons. We hope that you will come and see the vibrant works of Yuko Nakamura, who is garnering attention as an up-and-coming young Japanese-style painter who is in pursuit of a new artistic expression, while portraying traditional flower-and-bird motifs using classical techniques. (*kirikane: A design technique in which sheets of foil are stuck together on top of each other by heating them, before being cut into small pieces and applied them to sculptures or paintings. In Japan, the technique has been used in Buddhist art in particular.)
